The 2017 edition of the John “Shoes” Moshoeu  Cup proved to be extremely exciting, challenging and all around fun for all those who participated and a great spectacle for spectators to see such young talent on display.

Semi-final 1 was closely tied contest between Sikhanyisile Primary vs Boikgantsho Primary School. With the match ending in a draw at the end of full time, a penalty shoot-out had to take place in order to progress a victor. However, even the penalty shoot-out had to progress to a sudden death shoot-out with both teams unwilling to give in ! Unfortunately for the two teams there could only be one winner with Sikhanyisile Primary School edging out Boikgantsho with a 3-2 penalty shoot-out victory, securing them a place in the final.

Semi-final 2 was also a great match to watch with both teams giving it their all to secure a place in the final. It was contested between Sediba Sa Thuto Primary and Mveledzo Primary School. Mveledzo put in an amazing effort, only to be edged out the cup by a well organized Sediba Sa Thuto Team.

With Sediba Sa Thuto and Sikhanyisile Primary advancing to the final, it was a much anticipated match up as these two teams showed great discipline and skills on the pitch throughout the tournament. The first half saw Sediba Sa Thuto going into the half time break with a 3-0 lead over Sikhanyisile, leaving imaginations to run wild in thought of a great second half comeback effort by Sikhanyisile Primary.

However, it was not meant to be with Sediba Sa Thuto taking the game to their opponents in the second half and adding to their tally of 3 first half goals. Sediba overpowered and outplayed their opponents, eventually taking the cup with an overwhelming 6-0 victory. All in all it was a great day for all participants and spectators a-like. We look forward to next year’s edition and hope it will be just as great of a success as this year’s tournament. A huge thank you to all teams that participated, well done and we hope to see you all again next year.
