WELL DONE! GRADE 7 EXPO MEDALISTS

The Northern Gauteng Science Senior Expo was held on 18 and 19 August 2017 at the University of Pretoria. We are proud to announce that we had our first two learners from our Intermediate Phase, Sashimka Doorsamy (Grade 7A) and Devaan Naicker (Grade 7A) participate in this event.

The grade 2 learners had a hands on experience on Friday 18 August when they made a vehicle by using food items. Last week the theme for life skills was transport and we were learning about the different types of vehicles.

On 17 August 2017, or school took part in an emergency fire evacuation drill. This drill was conducted by Mr Mabebe with the help of all the staff you assisted with evacuating the learners.

On a warm winter’s day, Saturday 12 August, Star College Pretoria treated grade 2 parents and teachers to a well planned morning breakfast with a variety of eats on the menu. Mrs Perumall welcomed the parents who took this opportunity to have a relaxed morning.

JUNIOR SCIENCE ESKOM EXPO SUCCESS

On the 8th of August Star College pupils went to Maragon Private School to take part in the North Gauteng Junior Science Expo. These learners were selected from the Internal Science Expo that took place at Star College earlier this year.

They were each questioned by different judges about their projects and showed confidence whilst being under pressure. Well done to those children who represented our school, you have done us proud!

BAKING FUN WITH GR 2

The Grade 2’s had a baking day on Friday 11 August 2017. Our theme for Life Skills was Soil. We learnt about different types of soil like clay soil,sandy soil and loam. We also learnt about the different layers of soil and creatures that live in soil. We are learning about capacity and measuring in maths and therefore decided to make soil cups for baking.
It looked like soil but was actually made of caramel pudding and smashed chocolate cookies, topped with sour worms. It was delicious. The learners had fun making it but even more fun eating it!!.

INTER CLASS SOCCER TOURNAMENT

On Saturday 5 August we had our inter class soccer tournament/competition. The grade 4 group was up against the grade 5’s. In a relatively one sided first half the grade 4’s capitalised on the space that the grade 5’s created behind their own defence and went into halftime at 7-0. Late in the second half the grade 5’s stormed back into the game, but a little too late as the match ended 13-9 in favour of the grade 4’s.

On the 27th of July 2017 the grade one classes climbed on a bus and went to Honeydew mazes. For most of the learners it was their first trip on a bus and the excitement levels were high. Upon arriving at the maze the learners were split up into groups of two boys and three girls. This was to be their team mates in the maze.

This past Saturday, Star College Pretoria held its first parent -teacher breakfast for the Grades R and RR. The parents and teachers were warmly welcomed by our Foundation Phase HOD,Mrs Engelbrecht, and were treated to a delightful array of breakfast eats.
